Just Singing in the Rain

What is it about the first real spring rain? Does it seem like it makes everything so much greener and pure? Or is it just me? Why does the spring always seem like a new beginning? I always enjoy the first day that feels like spring more than any other day of the year. I get to put on shorts and a tank top and I am always more bubbly and cheerful than normal. I just love the sun and warm weather. There is nothing else like it. But then the rain comes and cleanses the earth and revives everything so the grass and flowers just seem like a more vibrant grass green and the sky appears a deeper Sapphire blue. Birds sit in the just beginning to blossom trees. People come out of hibernation after a long cold, dark winter and stretch their legs and warm their bodies in the bright blinding sunlight. Its like we never thought it would be warm and sunny again. We feared that there would be a unending winter for eternity. That we would never get any relief from the bitingly cold winter wind that turns our hands into scaly blocks of ice and give us embarrassingly red cheeks.
Spring Break seems like the dividing line between winter and spring. The time when everyone leaves for warmer climates and gets some sun to get them through until the warmer weather comes to their hometown. Sometimes it can seem like eternity before the sun decides to stay in town after spring break. But then there are times when amazingly it is 84 degrees and beautifully blindingly sunny at home when you least expect it. Days like that get me through the rainy and 50 degree days that come directly after, reminding us that it is not yet spring and we shouldn't get our hopes up. Laying in bed listening to the rain fall is like beautiful music drifting through your window though. For so long we had silent snow that fell like cotton candy and covered everything in a fluffy blanket. But rain, rain is different. It can fall so blindingly hard or so soft that you doubt it is even water falling on your face. There truly is nothing like the first spring rain.
It allows us to face what we have been putting off for too long and helps us to put things behind us that we have been dreading. We can finally pack up our lives and place the boxes in storage and sit down and write a long overdue essay that has been procrastinated on over and over again. One of which I have yet to do. We get to read a good book while we sit in an overstuffed chair as basketball games play on the T.V. and we get to dream the dreams we haven't gotten the chance to.
Let it rain....
