Recently I have taken up re-watching episodes of "Sex and the City" on DVD. The lives of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha and all their screwed up relationships help comfort me even in my most desperate of studying marathons. Why study for another hour when you can look up “Sex and the City” quotes online?
Carrie once said after she lost her $647 Manolo Blahnik's at a baby shower, "The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun." Announcing her engagement to herself provided a chance for "wedding presents" that she may never receive. Do single women really have no reason to celebrate other than their own birthday? Of course not. We can celebrate being free of all the baggage that some relationships bring to the table. We don't have to have a little somethin' somethin' to be happy, we can buy Manolo's and flaunt them out in public to show how excited we are about our independence.
Of course “Some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with.” Cinderella did not go chasing after a prince. He did the chasing with a shoe made out of glass, or was it fur. I guess that depends upon the version you read. Chivalry may not be out in abundance, but it does still exist.
Relationships can be great. “But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous”. And if it requires that you buy those $700 shoes then by all means, satisfy the Cinderella inside you and flaunt what you have or don’t have.
